Well, if we're thinking about compatibility and crazy ideas, why not go after a ten ton gorilla? Myspace compatibility. They already provide email notifications of updates; might we be able to leverage that to avoid violating their Terms of Service? We could sell the idea to users as a way to avoid constantly checking their Myspace account for updates - instead you get notified in a way similar to a new instant message when something is updated (though News Corp. may not be too excited by the idea of reduced page views).
